Tenacious - sailing side-by side as equal !

Last week the tall ship Tenacious came back to Siracusa!

Together with the Lord Nelson, the Tenacious belongs  to Jubilee Sailing Trust, a registered charity promoting the integration of people of all physical abilities.
These  two vessels  are specifically designed and built to able people with a whole range of different physical abilities to sail side-by side as equal, all around the world.
The crew is also partly made of volunteers and everybody on board can experience  a full and active part in sailing.

The Tenacious was launched in Sauthampton in 2000 and since then 12,000 people have sailed on it,crossing the Mediterranea sea through the winter seasons.

 ---------------

I had the honour to be the guide of the crew and passengers of the Tenacious a few days ago and I did a great experience!
Bernadette Lo Bianco, the representative in Sicily of F.I.A.B.A. (Italian Fund against Architectural Barriers), a tireless and "tenacious" woman, is supporting great projects about Accessible Tourism in Sicily  and she made  this new experience  possible to me.
A precious welcome from Maria Vittoria Fagotto Berlinghieri, representative of FILDIS association, member of the IFUV (International Federation University Women) -branch of Siracusa, who made ieverything very sweet!

I offered my tour guide free and at the end of the tour the captain guided me on board!

It was a pleasant surprise to read an email written by him to Mrs Lo Bianco :

"....Dear Bernadette
We have been lucky to get back to Siracuse today, we always like to
visit!
Also my crew had a wonderful tour of Ortigia conducted by Lucia, she
did a
magnificent job with a large group and in very cold and windy weather.
All
my crew said how much they enjoyed it.
We are very grateful to you and your staff,.....

...We wish you and Association Guide Provinciali di Siracusa many thanks
and we
take away very happy memories.
Sincere best wishes from me and all my crew.

TO: Presidente FILDIS della sezione Siracusa, Dott.ssa Maria Vittoria Fagotto Berlinghieri

Dear Maria Vittoria (ndr. Presidente FILDIS della sezione Siracusa, Dott.ssa Maria Vittoria Fagotto Berlinghieri)
We were very lucky and pleased to be able to visit Siracuse again just
recently; as always we received a warm welcome despite the cold weather!
Also we were extremely pleased to have the services of Lucia Iacono who
guided my crew on a walking tour of Ortigia. They were all very inspired by
the event and the assistance given by Lucia and Elisabeth (from Luise
    Associates).
Just before the tour returned to the ship we received a magnificent gift of
bread, wine and oranges which I believe you provided.
Thank you so much for all you have done and arranged for us, we are indeed
honoured by your interest and support and I hope sincerely that we can
    continue our friendship in future.
With best wishes from me and my crew.

Sicily among the clouds: Ortigia - bird's eye view

six days around Sicily by helicopter this is the strongest emotion to me   flying as a bird above my  marvellous Ortigia unforgettable

The caponata of the Inspector Montalbano... simply sciavurusa!

Yesterday I was at the street market in  my Ortigia and I ate a  wonderful  caponata When  it was served at my table that marvellous vision reminded me the description given by Andea Camilleri in one of the episodes of his popular Inspector: " The moment he opened the refrigerator, he saw it.  Caponata! Fragrant, colourful, abundant, it filled an entire soup dish, enough for at least four people. It had been months since Adelina, his housekeeper, last made it for him. The bread, in its plastic bag, was fresh, bought this morning. The notes of the triumphal march of Aida came spontaneously, naturally, to his lips. Humming, he opened the French windows after turning the light one the veranda. Yes, it was a cool night, but still warm enough to eat outside. He set the little table, brought the dish, the wine, and the bread outside, and sat down " (Excursion to Tindari, Andrea Camilleri) There were three Dutch tourists reading  carefully the menu close to me
