Cucuzza and ficurinia  - Zucchine e fichi d'India "Mangiamo!! - Let's eat - in Sicilian Ammuccamu!!! One question , to me at first quite astonishing, was :  "What do you do with these? " a northen European tourist asked me pointing out at preackly pears!! "WE EAT THEM......."

Some positive numbers in the jungle of statistics about tourist incoming in Sicily in July: Taormina successfully beyond the expectations .  Unlike  in the rest of Sicily , in July Taormina had almost 150.000 visitors with an increasing number of foreigners +7% and less Italians -8%. Jananese and American as last year while  more and more visitors coming from some countries like: Norway +52 % Sweden +11% Great Britain +19% Russia + 39 Brasil  +32% Argentina +24% -It's quite evident that the tourists are coming from the NO EURO ZONE countries Ragusa is another great reality: still after many years from  the coming out of the Inspector Montalbano its province had + 14% visitors every year since 1999! Nobody write and send traditional postcards anymore... It has become expensive but above all slow and complicated.. much easier to write by email or by social network... Maybe in an era where people are discovering VINTAGE.....someone will be back writing in a piece of paper again? - che nostalgia...quasi quasi esco , compro un pò di cartoline, francobolli e giù a scivere.... what nostalgia.... maybe I 'll go out and buy some postcards and stamps and then write and send...... looking for a traditional mail box! I wonder: teenagers have ever written a postcard ?

   for one afternoon we were thieves of capers......driving between the countyrside from Ragusa to Scicli, we found lots of wild capers' plants coming out from the dried stonewalls along the streets... We picked a few and following the advise of my man's mother.... we washed them, quicly dried them and put under salt in a glass box.. ready for next winter.....

If you are near Marina di Ragusa and it is overcrowded, at Punta Secca you find a more quiet beach... good to relax and have siesta!! * Montalbano's house is just behind the lighthouse

Marettimo: shopping at home

  Sad to say.. early morning watching national TV among the title of national Newspapers not only the GREAT VICTORY of these wonderful golden girls but also a doubt that behind these excelllent women there's not really good frienship but  envy or indifference I wonder: if they where men  would have journalists had the same doubts?  Incredible.. Really offensive to me.

Marettimo (Tp) I adore to take pictures of doorways, balconies and windows  (why?  I really don't know) but this blue door I saw in the little isle of Marettimo is my favourite. A cute pink flower on the handle to announce a new little life  born there. For the about 800 people in Marettimo this is a great joy. ---------------------- Adoro scattere fotografie a porte, portoni, balconi e finestre... non chiedetemi perchè..pechè non lo so. Questa porta blu è la mia preferita. Il fiore rosa appeso alla maniglia annuncia una nuova piccola vita a Marettimo. Una grande gioia ed una grande festa per i quasi 800 abitanti dell'isoletta.  

  Mostly, inland and by the sea,  the island of Favignana has been used to extract the local stone building material : tufa.  Today just an amazed cliff on what look really like a Carribean sea

 What a nice idea, isn't it ? ... Why not to paint a fruitcase and use it for your shopping on bike? I took this ph in Favignana  I'm going to paint one for my bike... I'll show you  when It will be done!!

 Yes, it's true ! Smile and food with Alessia! If you come in Siracusa, don't miss a cooking lesson with Alessia! She has a great experience and above all she's a genuine sicilian and likes Sicilian traditional food! At the market you can choose together the best fish of the day....and have great fun visiting  charming food stalls.. Last time we found fresh SPATOLA ...(someone told me in English is called  "sea or silver -belt" but I'm not sure) ask to the fisherman to cut for you long fillets of spatola to stuff them , or , with the help of Alessia you can learn how to do....removing the bones in the right way...   Ingredients for the stuff: breadcrumbs, eggs,orange juice and orange peel,racins, capers,garlic,origano,wild fennel's seeds,almonds,peanuts,chili pepper... As far as the quantity for each ingredients .....I can't tell you exactly because Alessia ,with great experience, "fa ad occhio"

Segesta  1. do archaeological tours at  2 p.m. at 40 ° C  2. eat a lot ... 3. buy souvenirs in the most expensive streets... BUT THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE DID  AND WE ENJOYED!
