Learning Sicilian: surprise & compliments

to express sursprise, both in positive or negative way, in Sicilian we can say: Bedda matri! (it. Mamma mia!) MIzzica!! to say How cute to a child: che bedda picciridda! che beddu picciriddu! (it. Che bella bambina! che bel bambino!) iddu (it. Egli, lui) = He/Him idda (It. Ella, lei)= She,her picciriddu (It bambino) = a child a baby (male) picciridda (It. bambina) = a child a baby (Female a nice expression to say to a girl : matri quantu sì bedda!! (It. mamma mia che sei bella!) You're so beautiful!! an (unpolite) expression to do a compliment to a girl (but with some vague sexual connotation) mi fai sancu!!! ( It. Ti desidero) I want you... fare= to make sancu= blood

Working & playing

this is for Daddy and that's for his child !

step by step....

These are some of the steps I do on Mondays afternoon to go in a place where I attend a course about Tv and cinema language. The course is quite interesting, but .I've just counted how many steps to go there: 198 !!!!

Cheese & sausage

Andrea  In the daily local street market in Ortigia (old Siracusa) there's my favourite cheese maker   Andrea is really a kind and funny person He is always so generous and it's impossible to cross the market without tasting all its specialities My tourists, who came there with me, still remember those wonderful flavours!      Smoked cheese and riped cheese underground, and dried sausage with wild fennel seeds.... Hmm che bontà!!!!!!!!!!! Andrea has become so famous that  tourists sign its delicious provola s

Spanish discounts...

have you heard what the Desigual store did in Madrid a few days ago? To improve their business they inaugurated the discount season offering free clothes to the first  100 customers coming to the store with only underwear clothes on!! Great idea! A lot of people accepted that. Can you imagine here in Sicily?? Hmm I've some doubts!! A longer queque for the curious people watching.. .Hmmm! More men on women??

Che cammurria!!! Che cammurrìa ca sì!!!

When I was a child my mother didn't like we (me,my sister and brother) talked Sicilian dialect.. It's an old mentality in the South of Italy among some people to think that speaking only Italian it's better to show your good education. So, my friends tell me that my English is better than my Sicilian. Tha's my revnge. Now I'm re-discovering the language of my country and it's always funny to find words which sound like French or Arabic or Spanish or greek or Latin or German ... Sicilian is considered a language and not simply a dialect, as it was the first example of literary language at the court of Frederick II (XII century) , before first Dante's poems when the so called Sicilian poets started writing love poems not in Latin but in the volgare spoken in their land. Under this "etichetta", from time to time you'll find Sicilian words or expressions ... Have fun together!!! -------------------------------------------------------

Saldi saldi saldi !!! Discounts part II

Not always it's possible to buy good clothes at good prices, but sometimes it's not possible to find really good clothes. Not always you find true discounts on the season clothes. This morning I was really upset. I went in one of the MOTIVI shops but I didn't find the things I was looking for. All old fashionable clothes, not at all belonging to their last autumn collection!!! They really think we are so stupid!!!!!??????

Saldi saldi saldi! Discounts !

Last week the discount season started. Till 15th March there's the possibility to find good clothes and shoes at reasonable prices. Yesterday I went out for shopping, looking  for some comfortable black boots with no heels, good for working and walking among ruins. Hmmm that's what I've brought with me at home.... no black, high heeled boots.... erano troppo belli!!!!!

Ortigia & Siracusa

a view of the new Siracusa from Ortigia The Eastern side of Ortigia Maniace castle in Ortigia The old side of Siracusa it's a little island the Greek called Ortigia (in Italian today) which means "quail" in honor of Artemis, the goddess of hunting. The new part of the city, anyway, is built above the  ancient side on the mainland..so wherever you are in Siracusa, you can find old ruins

Cesare Cremonini & Malika Ayane - Hello!

There's no official video about this song for commercial reasons...as the two singers belong to  two different companies!! What a shame , but in the real life each belong to the other.....they're in love. I have already liked Malika singing on her own.....when nobody knew  her I was already singing her songs. What about Cesare Cremonini.. a wonderful reality among the young Italian music panorama!! In this moment its Greatest Hits (about 10 years songs) is first in the  Italian Hit parade. Toghether ...for  a nice song about love!

MALIKA AYANE- Ricomincio da qui HD

Ricomincio da qui....... Starting again..from here!!! " I start again  from here from a light illusion I wake up and you are here here with me... again"

Is it like a Presepe, isn't it? That's Modica

That's Modica Tha's Modica, a picture taken to Modica bassa from the panoramic road which goes to the Oriente quarter, what locally people here call  o' rente. If you translate from Sicilian into Italian you should call it Il dente that is  the tooth !! Oh no !what mistake..... Oriente (East) wrongly pronounced in sicilain became o'rente. Funny people, we are! Look in the middle of the picture and you can see the true masterpiece of the Church of St. George! on the top of 250 steps!! So don't care if you are eating too much here. Then, good exercises with the guides around the city!

Funny laundry

I took this picture during my visit of the presepe vivente   in Giarratana Funny laundry, isn't it? Old kind of boxer , but, the funny way to hang the laundry somewhere has not changed.

One of my offices II

Duomo square in Ortigia (old Siracusa) Today coming back to work.... I don't like winter season too much....for a guide it's like a lethargy. It's true, you can do many other things, but I miss my job, I miss my offices!!!! Today, American people have decided to have a tour ....Ortigia, excavations, catacombs and what else? we'll see

Mi piace come sei - Jarabe De Palo & Niccolò Fabi

Le immagini di questa canzone sono bellissime.... questa canzone l'avrei voluta scrivere io.....se fossi un uomo la scriverei per la mia donna.. è cos' che vorrei sentirmi per il mio uomo...

Jovanotti - Tutto L'Amore Che Ho

that's my lullaby for tonight a tender love song

Prepepe vivente...

This is year I've chosen   to visit the Presepe vivente in Giarratana , a very little town in the province of Ragusa( 3.000 thounsand souls!), where in the old section of the village they set a wonderful presepe vivente , in a natural picturesque location. It's an opportunity, not only for tourists, but especially for the sicilian children and young to show them old traditions and rural life like it was not not really long time ago in the mountain sicilian villages.
