WORLD TOURIST GUIDE DAY - Siracusa

yesterday it was  the last day of the celebration of the International Tourist Guide Day in Italy!
Since 1990 - 21st February , every year  all guides, all over the world, let people know what they  do and the way they  do it   with love and competence, promoting their places in favour of local cultural and social development.

This year, as far as Italy from 16th  to 24th February it was   a great success. From Sicily to Val d'Aosta almost 200 different events totally free, offering special tours to everybody.
Tv and press promoted our initiatives  and we are so proud and happy.

In Siracusa we had really a wonderful  weekend last week, opening temporarily the new excavations  about the Ionic temple, the so called Artemision in Piazza Duomo below the Townhall.

Beyond any expectations we had thousands of visitors and  innunerable compliments.

As far as me, my WORLD TOURIST GUIDE DAY was a  new  experience.
WE  reserved a special tour to  the National Deaf  Association (Siracusa's group) and with the help of an interpreter LIS (Italian language of signs) we visited the ruins.

New cooperation between the local Association of Tourist Guides from Siracusa and FIABA (Fondo Italiano Abbattimento Barriere Architettoniche- Italian Fund against Architectural  Barriers) .
A special thanks to Bernadette Lo Bianco who so well represents FIABA in Sicily  and made it possible.

 New horizons opened to me!

To all my collegues
Thanks from the bottom of my heart!

Lucia

Among the religious traditions still respected during  the Lent the exhibition of the Taledda a large tapestry representing the Crucifixion Here one of the most famous in the area of Ragusa. the Taledda at St. George by the vaccaro brothers from Calatgirone It will be removedon Easter Sunday

Busulmona: like Heaven!

Busulmona : XIXth  century farmhouse, once property of the  Cavaliere Sessa, today run by the family Di Pino. 5 km far from Noto it is immersed in a wonderful almond grove and carobs olives and all the colours of nature   make of this piece of Sicily a true paradise! It works as a B&B at the moment with only two bedroom, but it's also possible to have lunch tasting olive oil and almonds and wathever  what rigorously the family produce and cook for you!  Tranquillity, harmony, genuinity.. this are the things coming to my mind when I was there The name Busulmona , which is the name of all that area, comes from the Arabic and means the land of sun....  an extraordinary view  from the stone terrace on the Val di Noto, from Noto to Vendicari and Marzamemi... . for further information : www.busulmona.com

Back to school!

I'm exausted! In these days students are coming back to school In a book shop I saw this lovely school agenda...( Il Diario ) TO choose the new diario was a nice thing to do with my friends. Everybody, among girls, was curios to see the others' agenda and then, through the school year fill it with drawings, puzzles of photoes, phrases, songs ...and homework (sometimes)  as well. If I were still at school, i think this would be my agenda!!!
