Restaurant: La Locanda del Colonnello

La Locanda del Colonnello, in the heart of the elegant Baroque in Modica Alta:
where the flavours of our Sicilian traditions meet the art of a young but already an excellent chef and his brigade (Accursio Crapraro)
It's the perfect place to relax , in one of its four rooms or in the lovely open courtyard of an XIX's century palace, testing authentic food in a friendly but elegant atmosphere.
Execellent the service.

Among the products carefully selected by the Locanda del Colonnello , I'm glad to find the wonderful olive oil produced by my friends The Mastri di San Basilio!

The plate of the day was Macco di fave con polpo al profumo di finocchietto selvatico -
broad beans soup with octupus at the wild fennel flavour

other specialities:
scacce - local rolled stuffed pizza typical from Modica
coniglio a stimpirata - rabbit with vegetables in sweet and sour sauce
pasta con le sarde e mandorle - pasta with sardines and almonds
gelo di limone o di cannella - lemon or cinemon pudding

.......to begin with!

buon appetito !

A curiosity:
If you are wondering who is the Colonel?
After crossing the doorway, have a look at the portrait hang on the wall...
The mustaches, you find on the  restaurant's sign, were His mustaches , and once He was the owner of the building.

Sicily among the clouds: Ortigia - bird's eye view

six days around Sicily by helicopter this is the strongest emotion to me   flying as a bird above my  marvellous Ortigia unforgettable

The caponata of the Inspector Montalbano... simply sciavurusa!

Yesterday I was at the street market in  my Ortigia and I ate a  wonderful  caponata When  it was served at my table that marvellous vision reminded me the description given by Andea Camilleri in one of the episodes of his popular Inspector: " The moment he opened the refrigerator, he saw it.  Caponata! Fragrant, colourful, abundant, it filled an entire soup dish, enough for at least four people. It had been months since Adelina, his housekeeper, last made it for him. The bread, in its plastic bag, was fresh, bought this morning. The notes of the triumphal march of Aida came spontaneously, naturally, to his lips. Humming, he opened the French windows after turning the light one the veranda. Yes, it was a cool night, but still warm enough to eat outside. He set the little table, brought the dish, the wine, and the bread outside, and sat down " (Excursion to Tindari, Andrea Camilleri) There were three Dutch tourists reading  carefully the menu close to me
