Dry machine? No, thanks.

Walking around the little lanes of our historical centres, and not only, it's very common to see laundry hanging on balconies. I didn't realize that it's very unusual  till a few years ago when an American painter asked me if it was possible to find a papyrus watercolor (a typical souvenir from Syracusa) with a Sicilian balcony painted on it. Sure!!! We went to who I consider the best artist making very good paintings on original papyrus paper..She showed her plenty of lovely portraits of sicilian medieval or Baroque windows and balconies. The American lady always commented that they were very nice but not properly Sicilian....WhY? I was surprised..She said...."well, there's something missing to me..I'd like to see the laundry!!!" "The laundry" exclaimed the Sicilian artist, thinking it was not elegant to paint laundry in a Baroque balcony!. Well, the American painter commissioned  to her two papyrus watercolors as she liked! After three years, Flavia, the local artist , is still selling these Sicilian Baroque balconies  with the laundry and are the favourite among her American clients. Everytime me and Flavia meet,we always remind this funny story!

This lady doesn't like tangas and perizoma

Busulmona: like Heaven!

Busulmona : XIXth  century farmhouse, once property of the  Cavaliere Sessa, today run by the family Di Pino. 5 km far from Noto it is immersed in a wonderful almond grove and carobs olives and all the colours of nature   make of this piece of Sicily a true paradise! It works as a B&B at the moment with only two bedroom, but it's also possible to have lunch tasting olive oil and almonds and wathever  what rigorously the family produce and cook for you!  Tranquillity, harmony, genuinity.. this are the things coming to my mind when I was there The name Busulmona , which is the name of all that area, comes from the Arabic and means the land of sun....  an extraordinary view  from the stone terrace on the Val di Noto, from Noto to Vendicari and Marzamemi... . for further information : www.busulmona.com

Back to school!

I'm exausted! In these days students are coming back to school In a book shop I saw this lovely school agenda...( Il Diario ) TO choose the new diario was a nice thing to do with my friends. Everybody, among girls, was curios to see the others' agenda and then, through the school year fill it with drawings, puzzles of photoes, phrases, songs ...and homework (sometimes)  as well. If I were still at school, i think this would be my agenda!!!
