Mezzagnone -from a Mausoleo to an Hammam !!

a few days I stopped to work as a tourist guide to attend a seminar about a project between the province of Ragus and Malta  for a workshop about Heritage trails in the minor archaeological sites of the two areas.
It was a great  occasion to be half student and half tourist!
Here and in next posts the places included in the project ARCHEOTUR we studied and visited.

MEZZAGNONE -Bagno a Mare
near the little town of Santa Croce Camarina:
it has been  considered the ruin of a Christian church with Latin Cross for years.
Nowadays there's no doubt, after some archaelogical excavations and investigations.
It was a mausoleo, that is a Funeral monument of the VIth century when the Gotes had just invaded Sicily before Bellisario led its conquest by the Byzantine.
Then , the building changed into an Hammam during the Arabs.

Busulmona: like Heaven!

Busulmona : XIXth  century farmhouse, once property of the  Cavaliere Sessa, today run by the family Di Pino. 5 km far from Noto it is immersed in a wonderful almond grove and carobs olives and all the colours of nature   make of this piece of Sicily a true paradise! It works as a B&B at the moment with only two bedroom, but it's also possible to have lunch tasting olive oil and almonds and wathever  what rigorously the family produce and cook for you!  Tranquillity, harmony, genuinity.. this are the things coming to my mind when I was there The name Busulmona , which is the name of all that area, comes from the Arabic and means the land of sun....  an extraordinary view  from the stone terrace on the Val di Noto, from Noto to Vendicari and Marzamemi... . for further information : www.busulmona.com
