Arabic-Norman beauty in Sicily

There's a place there are many places in Palermo where the architecture really shows the Arabic -Norman beauty of the Sicilian soul but one more than every else to me! S. Giovanni agli Eremiti  and  its extraordinary cloister  immersed in a mediterranean garden

This is the week of St. Lucia in Siracusa! On last 13th December the precious silver statue of St. Lucia  left the beautiful Duomo where she'll be back next 20th with another procession in the afternoon We hope in  lovely sunny day as  it was last friday!

Telling about Sicily as Sicilian...

me and soap ? Amici per la pelle

What a nice surprise: natural soaps made like grandparents used to but with new flavours  making soap more fragrant and tasty!!! A few days ago I found in Marzamemi a  stall called AMICI PER LA PELLE  - BEST OF FRIENDS , a group of young Sicilian producers from Enna who has invented an interesting line of  natural soaps  made at cold temperature so that it  keeps its natural active principles, without using palm oil or parabens and not tested on animals! They have no shops and at the moment you find them all around Sicily  at festivals and fairs! here their contact: amiciperlapelle1@gmail.com It was  quite difficult to choose among such a variety of soaps so well displayed before my eyes ! Then I had:  ginger& mint soap - energizing and refreshing lavander green tea & almond: moisturing and cleansing

é durata poco!

Some clouds at the horizon rough sea red flag  but... è durata poco!  sunshine again and scirocco blowing again!

Sicilian aromatic path at GLI AROMI

There's a place in Sicily, in Scicli, I fell in love with the first time I met Russino family and his great company GLI AROMI As a sicilian, as a tourist guide, as a tourist myself,.each time I go there  it's an explosion of flavours, aroma, colours and above all of emotions.... I confess: Botanic & agronomy is my "tallone di Achille".....and each time I work especially with English people I start trembling.........but I like gardens, plants, flowers so much ........and now I'm learning and learning more ....   What I enjoyed is the professionality, the knowledge, the politeness  and the passion and love you can breathe there......and Enrico is terrific! Enrico Russino in his coffee bar corner....... toc toc ? c'è qualcuno?

yesterday and today: between Scilla and Cariddi...

my first time on the ferry from Messina to Villa S. Giovanni (on the continent!!!) waiting for the bridge?  The Italian government has postponed the project of the bridge on the Straits of Messina for other two years.  Berlusconi's government had included it as one of the priorities in Italy.  Now,we run the risk of paying a fine of millions of Euro ... Here we are, still with the same old ferries.....in 15 mintes on the other side... I like to sail to the continent...not sure to enjoy the idea of the bridge!

great preview: the bronze Etruscan helmet from the British Museum to Siracusa

Dr Dirk Booms from the British Museum  A great preview today for the press at the archaeological museum " Paolo Orsi"  in Siracusa: the opening of the precious box coming from the British Museum containig the Bronze Etruscan helmet donated by Hieron I, tyrant of Siracusa, who, sending its fleet  in help of Cuma , took a memorable victory in 474. BC.  It nterrupted the overcoming supremacy of the Etruscans, the leading culture in the Tyrennian sea. The helmet was captured at battle and shows the inscription that Hieron I asked to write before offering it at the Olimpia ,once deposited at the sanctuary of Zeus. It was discovered by a British ambassador in Costantinople in 1817, then donated to his Admiral who brought it at the court of George IV. The British Crown offered it to the British Museum of London It was exciting to see the scene this morning, just for few people at the presence of Amleto Trigilio -the Regional Representative of the Fine Arts depar...

Buona domenica!

a new little life in Marettimo

Marettimo (Tp) I adore to take pictures of doorways, balconies and windows  (why?  I really don't know) but this blue door I saw in the little isle of Marettimo is my favourite. A cute pink flower on the handle to announce a new little life  born there. For the about 800 people in Marettimo this is a great joy.

postcards from Favignana: the caves

Mostly, inland and by the sea,  the island of Favignana has been used to extract the local stone building material : tufa.  Today just an amazed cliff on what look really like a Carribean sea

Aria di mare ..on your bike

What a nice idea, isn't it ? ... Why not to paint a fruitcase and use it for your shopping on bike? I took this ph in Favignana  I'm going to paint one for my bike... I'll show you  when It will be done!!
