Eating an arancino on the ferry when you come to Sicily.What else?   This is our WELCOME to all the people coming from the Continent by sea. (Old people still refer to the rest of Italy as the Continent!) This is enough to me to refuse to buil tthe bridge on the Straits.. In the rest of Italy there are different version, not always successful, of the Sicilian arancino. Here the Calabrese version: arancino with 'ntuja *..(quite good) *ntuja is the traditional salmi produced in Calabria, very soft and very spicy made with hot chili pepper. The word ntuja comes from the French Andouille which means sausage Buon appetito! --------------------------------------   Mangiare l'arancino sul traghetto è una tradizione anche per noi Siciliani. my first time on the ferry from Messina to Villa S. Giovanni (on the continent!!!) waiting for the bridge?  The Italian government has postponed the project of the bridge on the Straits of Messina for other two years.  Berlusconi's government had included it as one of the priorities in Italy.  Now,we run the risk of paying a fine of millions of Euro ... Here we are, still with the same old ferries.....in 15 mintes on the other side... I like to sail to the continent...not sure to enjoy the idea of the bridge!

It's only 3 km about and the ferry (private company Caronte and Bluvia the traincompany) leaves every 40 minutes..at least now in winter..and by car and two passengers you pay about 33,00 euro for a return ticket available within 3 days. It's years now since we started to talk about the construction of THE BRIDGE on the Straights of Messina. There are opposite opinions but nowadays il ponte is not just a project. It's among the priorities of Berlusconi Government and next June 2011  its construction will start. DO Sicilian people want the bridge? DO we need the necessity of it? For sure...a lot of people will work on it..and that's good For sure...I remember some experts not advise the construction of the bridge on that area (sismic and exposed to currents) For sure it will be easier and faster to drive on the bridge..but very expensive, too Some believe that ...
